APOLOGIES FOR THE DELAY OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS. I HAVE GOOD REASON. FIRSTLY, THE NEW UPDATES TO THE BLOG. SECONDLY, I SPENT SOME TIME WITH BOB PROCTOR HIMSELF.
Hi all,
The updates are almost done so I hope you like the new look blog. Over the next couple of months I will addiing much more content including personal videos, more detail on what I am involved with etc will come online. I’m so excited because I know as a coach, it changes lives.
To give you an update, I have been speaking, appearing on radio and personally meeting with Bob Proctor in the US. In fact, we spent some personal time together catching up.
But back to the topic at hand. Over the last 6-12 months I have been intesively studying what Bob Proctor studies. This is for 2 reasons. Firstly, he is successful in ways I want to be and the best way to get anywhere is to study the successful people who do what you want to do. The second reason is the lineage of information that has come to Bob Proctor.
Bob was taught by Earl Nightingale, the Father of the Self Help Industry. Earl was a good friend of Napolean Hill. Napoleon Hill studied 500 of the most successful people of his time for 20 years. It included Ford, Rockefeller and Edison. Napolean Hill wrote the most famous of all books on success “Think and Grow Rich”. Hill was commissioned to write the book by Dale Carnegie. Carngie was not only hugely successful but the author of another classic “How to Win Friends and Influence People”. That’s a fair lineage of quality thinkers and Bob is the beneficiary of all their knowledge.
So what are the 5 things?
- Why A VIsion is Vital To Your Success
- The Biggest Life Success Hint You Will Ever Know
- How Giving Makes You More Successful Than Receiving
- The Power of Gratitude
- Accelerate Your Sucess By Being Effective
I know these sound simple enough but these 5 principles have changed my life so profoundly, I could not recognize myself from 10 months ago.
Let me go through these over the next couple of posts starting with #1
Why A Vision is Vital To Your Success
Earl Nightingale refers to a study of why people go to work. Did you know the most common answer was “because everyone else does”? That is scary. In fact, we are trained to behave like one another for so many reasons. Not that the reasons are not valid but it does mean many people will never follow their dreams and truly be happy because they do not know what else to do. This is a common theme I come across during my consulting. I’m writing a book on this very topic (called Strong Heart, Strong Mind)
Having a Vision is an end point. I am not talking about having a nicer car or TV. I am talking about what we want to achieve by the time we get to age 65. Most people get there and find they can’t affort to retire. In fact only 1% of us will be able to afford to retire (US Census). That 1% also control 96% of the money on the planet. Think about that.
If you are not looking at your finances now, you could potentially be a slave to your job for the rest of your days! You would be like a ship out at sea but not pointing toward a port. You would drift. Some days would be good, some not but ultimately there is no destination.
I have a friend who calls this Point B. For example, if you go to the snow, you don’t pack a beach umbrella. Inversely, if you go to the beach, you don’t back snow skis. I know that sounds obvious but a lot of people are trying to do so many things and not getting anywhere. They do not know if they are going to the beach or the snow. So they pack everything. Let’s say you decide on the snow. You KNOW you need skis, warm gear and transport. It is also obvious you won’t need a beach umbrella. It is easier to make decisions when you have an end point in mind. The important things become obvious.
Additionally, if you know you are going to the snow and you don’t have the necessary gear, you know you need to get it. A lot of people in life say, “When I have the time/money etc, I will do (insert your desire here)“. The problem with that is you are saying, when I have transport, I will go to the snow. It doesn’t work that way. In fact it does not matter what you do or do not have now because you do not know where you are going. If you decided on a Point B, THEN you can gather the relevant resources.
Having an Vision not only gives you something to aim at but it inspires you to head in a certain direction where YOU want to be.
So in summary,
- You MUST have a Vision for your End Goal
- It does not matter what you do or do not have now until you decide on your End Goal
- When you DO decide, it will be obvious what is important and what isn’t for your journey
Have you had days where you were lost? Have you had days where EVERYTHING came together for you? I’d love to hear about them.
To your success,
Jon
