WHILE THERE MAY BE MANY REASONS PEOPLE AREN’T SUCCESSFUL, THEY ALL BOIL DOWN TO 3 THINGS. LEARN HOW TO OVERCOME THEM AND CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER.
TIME
With so much going on in our lives it seems keeping up with life is a big challenge in today’s world. There are so many things we would like to do but where do we fit it in?
A large part of this challenge can be broken down in 3 areas
-Doing too much
-Inappropriate priorities
-Don’t know our outcome
Doing too much
I used to want to do so much during my spare time that it almost became stressful managing it all. After I sat down and thought about it, I realise I was the instigator of many of the activities. I liked being busy. I did a quick experiment to see what would happen if I “lay low” for a while. Do you know what I realised? No one else picked up the ball. It was self inflicted. I probably got 40-50% of my week back by that one change alone. How many things do you do that create activity for you?
Inappropriate Priorities
I used to play a weekly game of poker with friends. This was fine for a while. In fact I really enjoyed it. But after a while, as the number of members grew, I got to spend less time chatting with my friends. That was the main reason I went. So I decided I would choose another way to get together with them. I got 1 night a week back.
Don’t know your outcome
This is a common one. I used to do this and that until I realised I wasn’t achieving anything. Why? Because I hadn’t decided what I wanted. I was “going with the flow”. The problem was the flow wasn’t where I wanted to be. Once I decided what I wanted, it was easy to decide what I wanted to do and what I didn’t. It was clear. In fact, this allowed me to cut out a lot of activity that didn’t get what I wanted in life.
The reality is we ALL get the same amount of time. Some of us chose to focus and use it more effectively. If you want to achieve what you want, you need to do the things that MUST be done.
MONEY
Some people have more money than others but if you have internet access you have money. It’s not as if we live in war torn Africa. We get to choose how to spend our money and some of us invest our money more effectively than others. If I spend money, it is to achieve a specific outcome. Any “entertainment” I indulge in is either minimal or as part of something I was doing anyway.
If something is REALLY important to us, then we find the money. For example, we have to have a place to live so rent and mortgage get a big priority with our money. Similarly for food. We need to eat.
If you could buy something that would change your life, would you do it? Of course! It is the PRODUCTIVE use of money that counts, not the amount.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Granted there are things in life that must be done. Educating our children, holding a job to pay for things but many people have priorities that are not that hard and fast. I used to demand that my leisure time was important to me and make sure I got out and about. As you saw above, when I let some of that go, I not only got some time back but saved money too.
What things in your life are REALLY important? How many of the things you do in a week achieving your overall outcome? This is what is really important. Our priorities need to be toward a specific goal and not an activity for activities sake.
Again, if you could go to a class and learn one or two things that turn around your life, what is that worth? Speed reading (for me) was a great example. I had so many books to read so I spent 1 day on a course. Now I get much more done in less time.
All of the above, time, money and responsibilities at the end of the day come down to YOU. How do you want to spend each of them? If you invest any of them into something productive, how would life be different?
This week I’m running a course on using your subconscious to make fast, effective decisions. If you are interested, you can email me at jonyeo@gmail.com. Details are at http://jonyeoandkellyjones.wordpress.com/
