Miles Davis and the Law of Attraction

WHAT HAS MILES DAVIS GOT TO DO WITH SUCCESS
AND LAW OF ATTRACTION?

About 5 weeks ago, my son was born. I named him Miles,
after Miles Davis. Not only is it a cool name, Miles
Davis defied categorization and yet firmly planted his
influence on music, particularly in the Jazz arena.

One of the things Miles was reluctant to do was a “throw
back” performance. He was always moving forward. Always
looking to break new boundaries. I think that is the
essence of his success. He never looked back. He never
allowed himself to be defined. Even his music has lasted
because he was willing to break away from convention and
discover new ground. I think that’s a perfect example of
how we can run our lives.

You see, you can’t drive a car with the rear view mirror.
Equally, I don’t believe we should limit ourselves
because of what we have done or what we have. If we stay
firmly focused on the future. We are bound to be
somewhere we did not expect if we played “the old way”.
Thoreau said “If one advances confidently in the direction
of his dreams, and endeavors to lead a life which he has
imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in
common hours.”

Listen to the interview Miles does with Byrant Gumbel in 1982.
When talking about hiring musicians he describes how people
“carry themselves”. That is the key to the Law of Attraction.
It’s about knowing something to the very fiber of your being.
There is no alternative. You “be” and all creativity comes forth.
Miles doesn’t like “rank” or even the word “Jazz”. All you do
is “take out what you want and leave what you don’t”.

Don’t be defined by what you have done. That’s the past.
Change your future by deciding it will be different. Eventually,
it has to come to you.
